Inspired by the exuberant zing of Helliwell Provincial Park; with its old-growth forest, log-strewn pebble beach, psychedelically resplendent arbutus trees, sheltered eagle nests, and tall grass whisking over towering bluffs.

Through various projects, Helliwell Pictures’ focuses our lens on people. Shooting on a small scale, we produce intimate films that get behind our subject's perspective. Documentary is our medium for telling redemptive tales of courageous souls engaged in creative confrontations; confronting personal fears, limitations, and pain to bring light and inspiration to our world.

Helliwell Pictures is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Michael Oved Dayan, Ph.D. founded Helliwell Pictures to share real-life stories of creative and courageous individuals working to bring hope to others. His documentary films are biographical in nature and focus on the decisions people make about their lives, and the values that drive these decisions. Through the medium of film, Michael seeks to discover the meaning, purpose, creativity, magic, and wonder that people ascribe to their lives; he aims to get to the root of what grounds them. He is interested in examining his subjects’ significant relationships, anecdotes, and insights. Michael's filmmaking draws on his love for ethnographic research practices. Opting for intimate conversations with film subjects, he operates his camera and conducts his own interviews. Michael’s work has been recognized with awards at international film festivals.
